The Secret life of Marilyn Monroe

As I said in my previous post, I have been loving documentary films about icons. Is it just me or do you not know about celebrities/fashion designers lives from the past? Because I certainly do not. 'The secret life of Marilyn Monroe' was a touching story of how she grew to fame, how she struggled in life but always kept a big happy smile on her face. I first watched this film over Christmas on Channel Five and was hooked.

Kelli Garner who plays Marilyn Monroe looks the spitting image of her and such great acting too!  Susan Sarandon Aka 'Thelma and Louise' star, plays Marilyn's mentally ill mother and both actors really make the audience believe the storyline. You really need to watch this film if you haven't already!

Incredible acting, very believable and also very sad that this is based on a true story. Have you watched this film?

Testament Of Youth

I'm finding it quite difficult to get my head around using a MAC computer. My nanna has all the latest gadgets and even she knows how to do the basic things which I don't.

Another film I have loved watching is 'Testament of Youth', a romantic war film that pulls your heart strings from the start. I'm emotional already and then with a film like this on top of it, *waterfall of tears*.  The film starred some recognisable faces, Alicia Vikander, who starred in 'The Danish Girl', Colin Morgan, 'Merlin' and Kit Harington, 'Game of thrones.' A story about 'normal' people enjoying their everyday lives, falling in love, having fun, working, and everything completely changes when the war starts. Their dreams of going to Oxford university go on hold and they fight for their country. With films like this, sometimes you can just tell what is going to happen, and even though you want the ending to be happily ever after, sometimes it's not.

A well acted, emotional, adventurous film that will 100% make you tear up. Do you like war films? What's your favourite?

Coco Before Chanel

Something big has happened in my personal life and because of that, I am not at home with my computer, camera equipment etc. I have plenty of things to post about as I have been buying products to test out by the dozen but for now, this week it'll be film reviews, as I have been watching quite a few...

I can't believe I have never watched 'Coco Before Chanel', It is a 2009 film about the early life of the fashion designer Coco Chanel (real name Gabriel Chanel) starring Audrey Tautou.  I have been loving documentary type films about icons recently and didn't want this film to end. I wouldn't say I know anything about any fashion designers, I leave that to my best friend Conor, but watching this film really made me want to know more about these people and their ever-growing fashion empires.  It makes you think, nobody gets to where they want to be in just a day. You have to work hard for it. Chanel grew up as an orphan, nuns taught her how to sew and she was a seamstress and on the side a dancer/singer at night time. Her style caught many people's attention and she started making people hats and long story short opened up many stores and then starting creating clothing. I don't want to give too much away if you haven't seen it already but it is such a lovely film to watch (I probably say that in most film review posts) and is definitely on my list of favourite films.

Have you ever watched this film? Who is your favourite fashion icon?

Not your average makeup primer...

Most bloggers, makeup artists and even celebrities have been raving about a product most women wouldn't normally use as a primer before applying makeup. That product is.. drum roll please... 'Nivea for Men Post shave balm.' Please let me remind you one thing.. 'FOR MEN'. Either way, it works, and it is great. I was with my best friend Conor in Boots looking for this moisturiser and when I found it, he said he used to use it and would give me his. I felt very strange taking a product that my Grandad and best friend would normally use but gave it a go. You have to try things out that don't seem 'normal' every once in a while. This makes my skin feel SO soft and once I have applied my makeup, it feels like it won't budge. I would recommend you to use a primer after using this too if you wanted a really long lasting night out look but for the day time this is great on it's own.

Have you ever tried this? What do you think?

Natural Deodrant!? Does it work?

I can't remember the first time I ever used deodorant, but it was a long, long time ago. For the majority of that time, I have always been a Sure user. Until now. I have been trying to get back into my fitness by running again which was my ultimate hobby in school. I take part in a 5K nearly every Saturday and I have also been taking part in charity runs. Hopefully one day I can take part in a half or full marathon. I have been trying to watch what I eat a lot more but I am a piggy and like a packet of crisps or chocolate bar every now and again. I watched one of Niomi Smart's YouTube videos about her training before her London Marathon. I love how dedicated she is to a healthy lifestyle and diet and seen she has a natural deodorant. This looked a bit strange to me and slightly gross but did a bit of research and when I was stocking up on a few things from Holland and Barrett I came across the deodorant she was talking about.

'Salt of the earth' is a natural deodorant which is unscented and completely natural. It is made from Potassium Alum which is a natural mineral salt. Since reading about natural deodorants, there are so many benefits. Most 'normal' deodorants have chemicals in which blocks the sweat glands, and contain nasty chemicals. I always worry about what I am putting into my body but never really think about what I am putting onto my body which could be just as bad.

To use, just rinse under water and then apply to the underarms. To make it last even longer, make sure to dry off the salt after each use.

click here for 'Salt of the Earth' or here for more of a selection of natural deodorants.

Have you ever/ would you ever use a Natural deodorant?

The Jungle Book Review

If you follow me on Instagram, 'candy__camera', you would of seen that last Friday, I went to see the new release 'The Jungle Book'. When I was younger I probably only watched the original once as I liked watching Princess films rather than animal ones so couldn't even remember the storyline. I wasn't interested in watching the new version but after meeting my friend for a meal we decided to head into the cinema. I really didn't think I was going to enjoy the film but in the end I really did. I wouldn't say it was the best film I have ever watched but it was a lovely storyline. There was a few 'scary' bits and I did squeal like a baby and hide my face with my scarf a few times so if you are taking small children, be aware it can get a bit jumpy. There was a family that walked out during the film as their child was scared. The film shown aspects of family, friendship, loyalties and strength and was a really powerful to watch. The main actor Neel Sethi was amazing, and so cute!!

Have you seen this film? What did you think?

Morphe Palette Review

I probably have a list as long as my arm of products I want to buy and try out. One of them I was able to tick off the list was the Morphe brushes eyeshadow palette in 35W. There is a massive selection of different palettes and I really struggled to pick just one. For the amount of eyeshadows you get for less than £20 is incredible. This is a great way to build up your makeup kit if you are a makeup artist too. I am starting to do makeup on the side again and this palette has really came in handy. (Like my Facebook page 'Makeup by Mand' to see more.)  The colours are very pigmented and easily blendable which is a thumbs up from me. I have been loving using the far left handside colour most days, one dap of the brush and a sweep and your whole eyelid is covered.

I bought my palette from Beauty Bay, and I was really impressed by their service and the delivery was super fast!

Have you bought any palettes from Morphe? Which are your favourites?

Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill - Champagne Pop Review

I haven't posted for quite a while now, and even though I really wanted to get on the computer and start typing away, there just wasn't enough hours in the day as life took over. I'm hoping things will get better on the blogging front and I can start making time for it a lot more.

So now onto all things makeup. My favourite topic! I purchased the Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill ever famous 'Champagne Pop' a few months ago after a long time thinking should I, shouldn't I. But I took the plunge and clicked Finished shopping. £30 is a lot of money for a highlighter in my eyes, and what if I didn't like it? What if it didn't suit me? But luckily I did like it, I loved it. I think people were sick of hearing about this amazing highlighter I had bought but as soon as I started wearing it, I could see their jealous eyes wanting this fabulous glow on their skin.

The consistency is quite creamy, suits my very pale skin tone and gives off the most beautiful glow unlike all the other highlighters I have purchased over the years. I have wore this highlighter every day since purchasing and it is a £30 well spent. I used to be the girl that wanted lots of makeup for a cheap price but I really think that spending a bit more money on the quality is a lot better than quantity.

If you are like me and always love a good highlight, let me know what your favourites are!

Tarte Lipstick Review

If you have been reading my posts for a while you will know that my Nanna loves QVC. She is always buying really great branded products and I go into her bathroom and my mouth drops. Some of the products I have wanted for such a long time and my 71 year old Nanna has it instead. On Christmas Day, as a family we went out for a meal and before we left she gave my mum and I a lipstick each from this 'Tarte' set. The colours of the lipsticks look completely different on the lips as they are a lot more natural and glossy. They feel very moisterising and smell like Peppermint which gives your lips a little bit of a tingling sensation. I also really like the naming of the lipsticks and the packaging is lovely and girly. I feel that the brand have really thought about every little detail and made it a lovely product to use.

Have you ever tried Tarte? What are your favourite products?

Soap and Glory Gift Set

Another gift set I received for Christmas was the 'Soap and Glory' pouch with four products inside. Unfortunately, when I unwrapped the gift, the little spray perfume had shattered everywhere but it did make my makeup bag smell amazing. I have many posts about 'Soap and Glory' as I love the brand so much. Everything I have used so far has not let me down.

I have tried out all three of these products since receiving them and I have to say even the lip gloss smells like you want to eat it. Makes the lips look lusicious and glossy and smells like cocoa butter. The highlighting blush gives a lovely glow to the cheeks without looking glittery or too shimmery. (makeup look coming soon!) As for the nail varnish, I have loved layering this on top of the Lancome pink varnish to give a bit of shimmer to the nails. Overall I think this gift set is lovely and perfect for a young girl and even adults.

Have you ever tried any of these products? What do you think?

Film Friday: JOY

I love films. I love going to the cinema. And I love Jennifer Lawrence.

Ever since 'The Hunger Games' , I have been watching many films with JLaw in and I think she is such an incredible actress. The film 'Joy' is based on a true story about Joy Mangano who created the 'magical mop' and became a self made millionaire with the help from the Shopping channel QVC. This is a really inspiring film as it shows the real struggles that people go through to be successful. Joy's life seemed very hard, coping with money problems, a hectic family life and trying to focus on her dream but she carried on and finally got the recognition she wanted. She fought hard for everything she has today and the film really made me feel motivated and want to do more!

Have you watched this film? Did you like it?

Philip Kingsley Trichotherapy

A while ago I wrote a post about a pesty habit I got into years ago that I have never stopped doing. (click here to read.) And it really upsets me that I keep doing it, so much that it has even made my family upset to. I have been pulling my hair for quite a while now, and even though I think it is a disgusting habit, I can't stop. My Nanna always shouts and slaps my hand when she sees me doing it and even bought me this product from QVC to try and help as it had the word 'Tricho' in it.

I have been using lots of different products to try and make it smoother as the more silky feeling the hair is, I tend to not pull. This spray from Philip Kingsley is a volumising protein spray to help with fine/thinning hair but also smoothes and maintains frizz. I haven't been using this product for long but I have really been enjoying using this product as my hair is a lot easier to style after using.

Have you ever tried any of these products? Do you or anyone you know have Trichotillomania, What do you/they do to help?
