Feeling Grateful

Things happen in your life, some things you can change, some things you can't. Shit happens, it sucks. But it's the way you heal and deal with it that makes you the stronger person. I have met so many great people over the years and learnt something from all of them. What I have learnt recently, which I should of put into practise a long time ago was gratitude. Be grateful for what you have already, yes everyone wants more, but being grateful for what you have may bring in more great things.

Everyone has their bad days, and I have had many of those this year, but thinking about the people in my life, the things I have, everything around me, makes me have so much gratitude and actually makes me feel better.

The other day my family found out my Grandad's cancer is now dormant. It's fell asleep. And even though he's been given a time limit of his life, he's still pushing on, He wants to be alive so he is working hard. He has been through so much stress, pain, the list goes on, but he's dealing with it. He has always said to me 'I have never felt so alive, I don't even have cancer, I'm going to live.' I am so proud and grateful he is my Grandad and even though this has been horrible for all of us, it has made us a stronger, closer family.
I am so proud of my friends, it makes me feel so happy to see them succeed. They have worked hard for the life they wanted, and it's paying off. Drama schools, universities, jobs can be very competitive, but they have all proved that they are capable of anything. They want to be fashion designers, actors, teachers, nurses, and they work blooming hard for it.

There are many people/things I am grateful for and sometimes a little gratitude can take you a long way.

What are you grateful for?

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two

It's been a whole year since Part One hit the cinema screens, and since then I have been patiently waiting for part two. Last night was the night, I excitedly flung through the big cinema doors with a spring in my step. (Is that a bit much? I was very excited.)

As I haven't read the books, I didn't know what to expect from the film. I was very surprised though. I don't like scary films, Give me a horror film and I'm out the door. This film wasn't scary like a horror film, but very jumpy. My heart raced throughout, I laughed, Cried, even felt a bit anxious. I know that if I was Katniss Everdeen, I would be dead in the first film. The acting was really good, I kept looking at how good Jennifer Lawrence's skin was too! *skincare geek alert.* Throughout all the films, I have loved the female empowerment, the  'feminist hero', you go JLaw! Not to give too much away, but I also cried at the cat scene, You will all know what I mean if you watch it.

Action packed, heart racing, amazing, are three words to sum up the film. Absolutely loved it. I hope they hurry up with the DVD as I want to carry on watching it.

Have you watched it? What did you think?

Morning Skincare Routine

If you know me then you'll know I am obsessed  with skincare. I love looking after my skin and trying to make it healthier and clearer. I have suffered with acne and acne scarring for a few years now and since studying beauty therapy and having a job at a skin clinic, I needed to change my skincare routine. I have been having many different treatments to gradually help the appearance of my skin but alongside that, having a good routine and a healthy diet really helps.

Every morning I will use the 'Avene Cleanance soap free cleansing gel' this product has really combat any excess oil, helped with breakouts and made my skin a lot clearer. As this is soap free, it doesn't make the skin tight or sticky, I feel very clean after using this.

I then move on to two products from 'Skinceuticals', these are the 'Phyto Corrective' which helps with redness and sensitivity and also 'Retexturing activator' which exfoliates the dead skin cells from below the first layer of skin. These together are a perfect combination for hydrating and exfoliating the skin.

And last but not least, One of the most important products that everyone should use. People think that just because they are not living in a hot country they don't need to use an SPF. I use this 'Avene SPF50' sun protection. This doesn't just protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays but also pollution, dust etc. As this product can be a bit sticky if you use a lot, I use a tiny amount and it really sinks into the skin nicely without feeling horrible.

What do you use for your morning skin routine?

OOTD: Butterflies and Scarves

Another outfit I love wearing is this H&M number. I love loose fitting clothes and even got a bigger size in this dress to make sure it was big. The tiny butterfly detailing is what I love. I love butterflies so much. They are so pretty and delicate. I partnered this up with my New Look scarf, knitted tights, crystal Quartz necklace and Primark Suede boots.

What's In My Bag!?

I was clearing out my bag and thinking 'What should I blog about?' And then it hit me, 'What's In My Bag!' I have seen so many people do posts like this and in a weird way, I love to know what people carry around with them.

So once I cleaned out my bag, I narrowed it down to what I normally take around in my Mary Poppin's bag. This tassle bag is from Primark and I love it very much. I take it everywhere with me and it fits so much in it. Again, I must be Mary Poppin's sister. I normally take around with me snacks, my lunch, and lots of bottles of water. (I must of ate and drank it all. #pig)

I have recently just joined Slimming World so I can actually fit into, and look good in my Christmas Work party dress. I carry this folder of books everywhere with me to work out what and what not to eat during the day. I am so surprised that I can still eat a lot and hopefully still lose a bit of weight. We will see.

I obviously carry round my purse and keys. And lots of lipsticks, lip balms, hair grips and bobbles. They are an essential what can I say. As the weather in the UK changes it's mind a lot, I take sunglasses everywhere with me. I just can't stand the sun in my eyes, or the thought of getting Crow's feet!

Another must is a Unicorn notebook to jot notes or ideas in as my memory is awful and also my diary so I don't let people down by not turning up to things! And last but not least, My phone. My phone case gets a lot of attention. I have been needing to get an upgrade for so long now and finally got the new Iphone 6S, and I have also bought the exact same phone case for the new phone.

What do you carry around in your bag?!

The Benefits of Reiki and Crystal Healing

Last Thursday, I went to see a lovely lady who does Crystal healing and Reiki sessions. Over the past few months (well most of the year) I have really struggled with lots of different situations in my life which ultimately made me feel drained, 'lost my spark', and just miserable ALL the time. So after speaking to one of my friends about Reiki treatments I found a practitioner that was in the area and booked in. I am a very sceptical person but also wants to try everything and anything. I didn't really know what to expect from the treatment, I just thought I would walk out being the  same Miserable Mand that walked into the little shop.

I had to lie on a couch, hold two crystals in either hand and close my eyes whilst listening to relaxing music. The lady placed different crystals around me and did whatever she had to do. Trying to find a way to explain how I felt whilst the treatment was going on is quite hard. I felt lots of different emotions, my mind was going crazy with different thoughts. People that had come and gone from my life, happy memories, sad memories, whooshing in and out of my head like waves. She placed a certain crystal on my head and the sensation was like it was pulsing. The crystals in my hands were 'buzzing' and I felt like I had pins and needles. Once the treatment was over, I had a glass of water and sat up straight to speak to the lady.

The lady then  asked how I felt after the treatment and also said some things on how she felt too. She said she has been doing this treatment for many years and she had seen and felt things she had never before. I felt like I had low blood pressure, I felt a little weak but OK. And this was the  first time I have felt OK for a long time. I then started to cry. (I do cry a lot. I am an emotional soul. Don't judge me. She did say it was normal though.) I let it all out and felt free. I have been wrapped up in guilt, sadness and lots of emotions for so long now, It felt good to let go. I never thought that having this treatment would make me feel so good! I then told her I had been wearing different crystals as jewellery for a while and every time I wore them, I felt I was getting bad luck. She said this was probably because my Chakras were unbalanced and they needed to be cleansed. The information she gave me was amazing and I would recommend crystal healing and Reiki to anyone! I will Definitely be going more often!!

Have you ever tried anything like this? What did you think?

Winter Is Coming...

The days are getting colder and the nights are getting darker, it must mean one thing.. Winter is on it's way. Every year I purchase a new winter coat, and this year I haven't found 'the one.' So this year seems like it's going to be wearing the ones I already have. The one I'm wearing below, I think I got last year from New Look. It is a warm coat but I wouldn't say you wouldn't be cold if there is a strong wind or snow storm so that's where 'The North Face' coats come in! But this coat is perfect for the chilly days, the days you're just popping out the house for a few hours. The only thing I like about winter, Is the fashion side of it. You can layer up, chunky knits and big coats = Perfect!

Getting into a 'rut' about your future

I have never knew what I wanted to do with my career or my life for as long as I can remember. In school, they helped people who knew what they were doing, and not the people that didn't. I felt that my friends knew what they wanted to do, go to college, start working or start university. I was interested in lots of different things, and I'm the person that changes my mind like the weather. Recently I have studied lots of different things, been in beauty jobs, retail, food, all sorts. And now, I feel like I'm where I am meant to be, and that's completely different to what I thought.  Anyway, after speaking to my mum the other day, I really felt like I had to blog about this. My mum has worked all her life, been in many different jobs over the years, and now doesn't know what to do with her life. She said to me she felt like she was in a rut. Being 'old' she probably wouldn't get the opportunities a younger person would get. I asked her if she had any ideas of what she would like to do, or if she was to leave her job, what she would do. But she didn't know. Many people get stuck in a job for years and years, like my mum and scared to leave their comfort zone because of this. Money gets you food on the table, and without a job, how are you meant to do that?

Are you in a job you love? Are you where you thought you would be?

'One man's junk is another man's treasure'

Ten bin liners, two big boxes and mountains of bedding, we had a clear out. I normally de clutter my room quite often but this time it was the whole house. Move over Spring clean, It's an Autumn clean! My mum and I have wanted to make the house look nicer for a long time now, and people say 'money isn't everything' but it does really help. You can't re decorate with no money can you and the first step is the long awaited bathroom refurb! We decided having a clear out of things we no longer need would make the house look tidier and also making other people happy, by donating it all to charity. After our clear out, over dinner we both said how good we felt by cleaning and clearing. (Obviously we clean the house all the time but a deep clean, top to bottom.)  Looking at all of the things we got rid of made us think how lucky we are and how much we take for granted. Our 'Junk' could be someone else's treasure. Why would we need three electric whisks? Four pairs of old hair straighteners? Millions of ornaments in a dark cupboard?  Bed lining and duvets that had never been used? Some of these things, people do not have the luxury of, and here we are never using these items!

What is your favourite charity you donate to?

OOTD: A walk through Derbyshire

Autumn is my favourite season hands down. Not too cold, but not too hot. Crisp mornings, fresh air, leaves changing colour, I just find it so beautiful. Knitted cardigans and jumpers are out of the wardrobe (Always are with me. Granny alert) and you're all set. Silly me left my coat in the house before I left when I went to Derbyshire, but I didn't need it. Just an umbrella when it poured with rain. In my eyes, I am the least fashionable person out there. My friends are the ones with that quality. I'm normally the 'Basic Betty', plain, simple, warm, low cost, that'll do me just fine.

Thinking about this outfit, everything is from New Look. Apart from the vest top underneath my jumper and you can't even see that. My boots and jumper were bought earlier this year in the sale just after Christmas in Leeds. I LOVE these boots so much, I wear them all the time and I will be very sad when the day comes to throw them in the bin. My scarf I have just bought recently. I have wanted a Tartan scarf for as long as I remember but not found one I like as of yet so thought I would buy this printed, large scarf for now. As for the jeans, If one more person says my jeans are ripped I'll run away from them. Ripped jeans are 'all in right now' right? I love how comfy they are and I probably won't be wearing these if it gets any colder as my knees will catch frost bite. I really enjoyed wearing this outfit at the weekend, What do you think?

The Family Outing

Since my Grandad became ill, we have tried to spend a lot more time together as a family so decided to go for afternoon tea at the weekend. Driving up the M1 in their big car was a little scary to say the least, especially with back seat drivers! But we eventually got there and enjoyed walking round the cute little town. There are so many tea shops and bakeries to enjoy, and with tea addicts like my grandparents, they were in their element. We took our seats ready for our afternoon tea and couldn't believe our eyes when the food came to the table. There was so much! My grandparents had the 'Mr and Mrs' tea which came with sandwiches, Original Bakewell tart, Two little Bakewells, fruit cake, scones, selection of meats, Pork pie, tea/coffee and an alcoholic beverage of their choice if they wanted. I went for the 'Silver' afternoon tea which was again, a lot of food. A food lover like myself couldn't eat it all and that's saying something. I had sandwiches, Scone, Original Bakewell tart and I chose a peppermint tea. After we were rolling out of the tea room we headed down the streets and explored. We then went into another tea room and it was beautiful. The walls were covered with mirrors, big photo frames and ornaments. Very cosy. We all enjoyed the day very much and I would definitely go again, even for long walks as the countryside was so beautiful.
